Rant: the old bookbinder in Tucson who made me re-sew a whole text block over 2mm
I was at a workshop in Tucson last month and an old binder named Hank watched me case in a book and said my spine was off by 2mm, so he made me pull the whole text block and re-sew it by hand right there. I was mad for about an hour, but when I pressed it flat the next day the boards sat even for the first time in 3 years of binding. Do you all check your square before casing in, or do you eyeball it like I used to?
