Why I changed my tune about the Library of Congress binding standards
I visited the rare book room at the Boston Public Library last month. Saw a 1700s geography book with original stitching still holding strong. Made me realize those preservation guidelines I always rolled my eyes at actually have real purpose. Has anyone else had their mind changed after seeing old bindings in person?

Walked through the Huntington last week and a 1600s atlas just floored me the same way.

Old stitching in person still looks like old stitching to me, no matter how well preserved.

C'mon, you gotta admit there's something special about holding a piece of history like that. Even if the stitching looks "old," it's basically a time capsule in your hands.
