Found a VHS at a garage sale in Fresno labeled 'Star Wars' and it had a whole different ending
Paid a dollar for it last Saturday and when I got home the last 20 minutes showed Luke joining the Empire instead of blowing up the Death Star. Curious if anyone knows where this cut came from or if there's more of these floating around.

Fresno is actually a known spot for bootleg tapes, there was a guy on Blackstone Ave who sold dupes out of his trunk back in the 80s and 90s. If this was one of his, there's probably a whole run of them out there. The Luke joins the Empire thing sounds like someone spliced in footage from a fan film or a foreign dub that got edited weird. I'd check the tape label for any handwritten codes or numbers, those guys usually marked them. Also pop it in a different VCR if you can, sometimes tracking issues make edits look way more dramatic than they are.
