Everyone in this community keeps saying the grungier the tape the better, but last month I paid $2 for a 1989 recorded-off-TV copy of Die Hard at a garage sale in Mesa and the tracking is so bad you can't even read the Nakatomi logo. I ripped it anyway and the audio dropout during the "yippee ki yay" line is so bad it sounds like someone unplugged the mic. Call me crazy but a rip has to actually be watchable to be fun, otherwise it's just static with extra steps. Where do you all draw the line between a classic worn tape and one that's just broken?
