I used to call bad dubs lazy money grabs until a guy at a flea market in Toledo played me a 1992 tape
He had a bootleg VHS of Akira with a dub where the whole cast sounds like they recorded it in a hallway, and he told me the studio paid the voice actors 40 bucks a session, so they just read fast and left. I always figured bad dubs were somebody cutting corners, but hearing the tape made me think it was more like kids doing a rushed job in one room with no direction. Now I want to know which famously awful dubs have a backstory like that, so if you have a rip with a weird credit scroll or a rumor behind it, drop it here.
