That guy at the thrift store who mocked my VHS collection still bugs me
About 6 months ago I was digging through a bin of old tapes at a Goodwill in Portland and this random dude walks up and laughs out loud at what I was holding. I had a copy of some weird Hong Kong cut of The Room with a totally different ending, and he said "nobody watches those anymore, you're just hoarding trash." I told him it was for a bootleg screening series I run with friends and he just rolled his eyes and walked off. It stuck with me because like, why does someone even feel the need to gatekeep other people's hobbies at a thrift store? Has anyone else had a stranger try to shame them for collecting weird film finds?

Yeah ignore that guy. People who shame others for collecting weird stuff at thrift stores are just miserable. They probably don't have any hobbies themselves so they gotta tear down yours. VHS collecting is legit especially for obscure releases like that Room bootleg. The whole point of thrifting is finding weird random stuff that speaks to you. If he can't handle someone enjoying old media then thats his problem not yours. Keep digging through those bins man thats where the real treasures are hiding.
