The 28-cent VHS vs the 120GB rip, the tape won for sound

I compared the old mono VHS dub of The Thing I found at a pawn shop in Gary, Indiana to a 120GB 4K rip I pulled off a forum. The picture on the rip was obviously clearer, but the audio had that weird digital echo, the tape sounded raw and punchy. Turns out the rip was a bad 5.1 downmix, someone botched the EQ at the source. Anyone else keep a crummy tape around just for the sound, even when you have the fancy file?

Oh man, I still got a beat-up Blade Runner tape for the same reason, the VHS hiss just sounds right.

Gotta say, Blade Runner's original cut had that narration, not the tape's hiss.
