Boss cut our crew from 6 guys to 3 and said the job would take the same time, we laughed, now we're 9 days behind and he's blaming us
He stood in the trailer on a Monday and told 6 of us that 3 could handle the same square footage because we'd just work smarter, and now on day 9 of being behind he's sending emails about our efficiency, so I want to know if anyone else has watched a manager cut a crew in half and then act shocked when the schedule falls apart.
I read a study a while back about construction crews that said when you cut a team in half the work doesn't stay the same, it falls apart because you lose the guys who cover each other without even thinking about it. One guy runs for material while the other keeps working, someone spots a problem before it turns into a mess, that kind of stuff. That only works with enough people on site. Your boss looked at a spreadsheet and saw 6 paychecks and thought 3 means you save money, but he never counted the time lost standing around waiting or running back and forth. Nine days behind with half the crew makes total sense, and the emails about efficiency are just him trying to make his bad math your fault. I heard a foreman say once that a crew runs on people, not on wishful thinking, and your boss is learning that the hard way.
