My boss told me the job was too big for us, I bid it anyway, and now we're booked through August
Got called into the office back in March after I quoted a 2 acre property in Scottsdale at $14,500 and my boss laughed and said no way we could handle that with 3 guys. I did the math on my own time, showed him the schedule worked if we split it over 6 days, and he finally said fine but it was on me if it flopped. We finished it 2 days early and the homeowner referred us to 4 of his neighbors on the same street. Has anyone else had a manager shoot down a bid before actually looking at the numbers?
Been there man. My old boss shot down a whole subdivision bid because he "didn't like the look of the guy" and then we sat around twiddling our thumbs for two weeks while the crew from the next town over took the whole contract. What killed me was he never even ran the schedule, just went off his gut. Next time it happens, put your math in writing before the meeting, dates, guys, hours, the whole thing. Hard to argue with a schedule that actually adds up, and if it still flops you got proof you did your homework. Good on you for pushing it through, that referral chain off one street is how you build a real client list.
