Vent: my boss made me scrub the walk-in cooler at closing, so I quit that night and now I clean pools in Tucson
Two summers back I was waiting tables at a spot off Congress in Tucson. Close was at 11, and my boss Duck (real name, no joke) told me to scrub the whole walk-in cooler with a sponge and a bucket of bleach water because the health inspector was coming Monday. I was clocked out, apron already off, keys in hand. I said sure, that's an hour of work, can you put it on my check. He laughed and said it builds character. I stood there for a second, put my keys on the counter, and walked out. Next morning I saw a guy cleaning a pool at my apartment complex and asked if he needed help. Fifteen an hour, cash, no walk-ins, no Duck. Best bad call I ever made. Has anyone else had a boss ask for free work right after clock out? What did you say?
