Greenhouse vs. cold frame for overwintering in Michigan, no contest

I tried keeping my potted rosemary and citrus in a cold frame last December and lost half of them to rot and freezing. Built a small 6x8 greenhouse with polycarbonate panels near Lansing and the difference was night and day. The greenhouse holds steady temps with a simple space heater and the cold frame just could not handle the wind and temp swings. Has anyone else had way better luck with one over the other in cold climates?
