My neighbor's orchid advice about coffee grounds backfired hard
My neighbor Linda told me to sprinkle used coffee grounds on my orchids to boost growth, so I tried it on my phalaenopsis last Tuesday... within 3 days the roots looked like they'd been burned. Turns out she was thinking of gardenias, not tree-dwelling orchids. Has anyone else had a well-meaning tip go sideways like this, or is my orchid just doomed?

Honestly, I did almost the exact same thing with my Miltoniopsis last spring, and the roots went all mushy and dark within a week. I ended up cutting away the rotted bits, giving it a fresh bark mix, and just letting it dry out for a bit, it bounced back after a couple months.
