My prized orchid collection got hit by a sudden cold snap last winter
Had them on a sun porch in Chicago. Woke up one morning and the temp had dropped to 15 degrees overnight. Half the plants had black, mushy leaves. I moved the survivors to a warmer room and cut away all the dead tissue. Has anyone else managed to save a plant after a major temperature shock?

My grandma in Florida always said orchids were tough, but I saw a few die after one cold night. Paulw87 is right about cutting back the dead parts, that method saved my last phalaenopsis. Now I keep a small heater in the plant room just in case.

My neighbor in Milwaukee lost her whole jade plant collection to a freeze like that. Honestly, cutting back the dead stuff was the right move, it saved a few of mine once.
