Spent a whole Saturday trying to root a cutting in honey and it just got moldy

I saw a gardening video where they said honey works better than rooting hormone, so I dipped a cutting from my Monstera in honey last weekend. Instead of roots, I got a fuzzy gray science experiment that smelled like old fruit. Has anyone else had success with weird kitchen items for propagation?

Oh man, that sucks! My buddy Dave tried using cinnamon on a pothos cutting once, swore it would stop rot and help roots grow. He dusted the whole node with it, stuck it in some damp perlite, and a week later it looked like someone sprinkled powdered donut sugar on a dead plant. The smell was this weird spicy mildew thing, like a pumpkin that went bad. He just uses plain water now and shakes his head whenever anyone brings up kitchen hacks.

@troythompson I just stick pothos cuttings in a jar of tap water and forget about them, works every time.
