The summer my zinnias took over the whole garden bed and I loved it

Back in 2019 I planted a small packet of zinnia seeds in a 4x8 foot bed. By early August those things were 5 feet tall and spreading into the lawn. I measured one stem at nearly 3 inches thick. The bees and butterflies showed up like it was a neighborhood block party. I had to cut bouquets every other day just to keep them from blocking the tomato plants. That whole July week of 90 degree heat with afternoon thunderstorms was perfect for them. Has anyone else had a plant variety just go completely wild on you like that?

Did you have to stake them at all? Mine got so top heavy they flopped over after every rain. Still worth it though, best accidental jungle I ever grew.

Three foot rebar stakes worked for me. I drove them in about a foot deep right after planting and tied the main stems loosely with old t-shirt strips. The plants still leaned a bit after heavy storms but they always bounced back instead of snapping.
