Appreciation post: that 3-5-7 rule for corner leads finally clicked for me

Was reading an old issue of Masonry Magazine from 2019 and saw a stat that said 60% of new bricklayers mess up corners on their first 10 jobs. Tried the 3-5-7 rule they suggested for keeping your lead bricks level, and it cut my corner time by half on my last retaining wall. Anyone else use a trick like that or just wing it?

Lost my string line once and ended up with a corner that looked like a drunk snake. @hayden_butler27 I feel that pain. That 3-5-7 trick is a lifesaver once you get it down, beats eyeballing it and hoping for the best.

Oh come on, is corner work really that big of a deal? I mean it's just stacking bricks, not rocket science. People act like it's some kind of mystery.

Saw a guy try that with a level once, forgot his string line and it looked like a roller coaster lol.
