Curved wall job went perfect with a string line, not a laser

Everyone online says laser levels are the only way to go for accuracy. I totally disagree after my last project. We had to build a curved brick border for a patio, and I used a basic string line with stakes. It let me see the whole curve at once, not just dots on the ground. The bricks lined up smooth, and the owner was stoked with how it looked. For stuff like this, a string gives you better control than a laser. So, I'm not ditching my string anytime soon.

Are lasers just for people who can't tie a knot?

My dad's old toolbox has a spool of mason's string that's seen more curves than a laser dot ever will. Lasers are cool for impressing clients who think blinking lights mean precision. But when you're laying bricks along a gentle arc, seeing the whole line beats chasing tiny red spots. Plus, if the wind blows, your string just wobbles. If the battery dies, your laser is a fancy paperweight. So yeah, I'll keep my string and let the laser folks enjoy their techy toys.

Remember when my buddy tried to use his phone's measuring app to lay out a deck. He spent an hour fighting with it, holding it just right. I finally tossed him my old tape measure and he had the lines marked in five minutes. Sometimes the simple tool you know how to use beats the fancy one that needs perfect conditions. It's like that with string versus laser, you work with what gets the job done right. His deck turned out great, by the way, all square.
