Finished my first solo brick arch over a garage door today
I've been laying brick for about 8 years but always avoided arches. Finally took a swing at one for a client in Springfield and the keystone went in perfectly. Anyone else remember the first time an arch just clicked for them?

Actually gotta push back on what @loganthompson said. Arches are a huge deal because they're not just a fancy opening, they're what holds the whole thing up. That extra work is the whole point, it's what makes the structure last. My first one that clicked felt like unlocking a secret level in the trade. Seeing that keystone go in and knowing it's all locked in place is a different kind of satisfaction.

What's the big deal about arches anyway? They seem like a lot of extra work for a simple opening.
