Mortar mixer quit at 5pm on Friday and the pour was Monday morning

Gearbox started grinding and dumping sand right into the drum, so I ran to the rental yard in Mesa and grabbed the last one they had. Cost me $180 for the weekend, but what would you do, wait on a rebuild kit or just eat the rental?

Had a guy tell me once that the rental cost is always cheaper than missing a pour date. His logic was you only pay the rental once but you eat the reschedule penalty with the GC every time. I never forgot that. $180 for the weekend beats calling your concrete guy Monday at 6am with your hat in your hand. Plus you can't even get a rebuild kit for a lot of those little mixers fast, half the time the gearbox is a special order deal anyway. Eat the rental and keep moving.
