Shoutout to the old-timer who told me my mortar looked like oatmeal
He said, 'Kid, if you can pour it from the bucket, it's too wet,' so I started mixing a stiffer batch and my walls stopped sagging, but has anyone else had a client insist on a mortar color that just wouldn't set right in the heat?

That color thing... some pigments just kill the cure in hot weather.

So black paint just gives up and melts?

Yeah, black paint is brutal in the sun. It soaks up all that heat and the surface gets way too hot for the paint to dry right. I've seen it get all gummy and never really harden up properly. Using the right kind of paint for the heat makes a huge difference.
