Tbh, just had a full course of bricks start to lean on a garden wall job in Phoenix. The mix was way too wet and the footing wasn't level. Had to strip it back and start over.

Ah, the classic "wet mix and a prayer" method. Hope the second try goes better.

Honestly, I read somewhere that letting it dry longer helps.

Actually letting it dry longer can make it crack. The sweet spot for most patching compounds is about 90 minutes before you sand. I learned that the hard way after a whole wall started spiderwebbing.
