Yeah but was he right? I tried it on my last wall and it made a huge difference.

I used 3/4 inch foam board on a north-facing wall (the cold one) and it dropped the temp by almost 4 degrees in the room. Big difference like you said, but make sure you tape the seams right or you'll get condensation behind it and that's a whole other problem.

Yeah you're spot on about the tape. I actually READ somewhere that a lot of folks skip taping the seams and then wonder why they get moisture problems later. It's not just about keeping the cold out, it's about stopping that warm air from hitting the cold wall and condensing. I've seen it happen in a buddy's basement. He put up foam board but didn't tape anything and after a few months the drywall right where the panels met was all bubbled up and nasty. He had to rip it all down and start over. So yeah good call on that tip
