That one day in July when the mortar wouldn't set right

I was working on a retaining wall out in Brighton, Colorado back in July and the heat was brutal. The mortar was drying out way too fast before I could even get the bricks leveled out, I think it was like 97 degrees that afternoon and the sun was just baking everything. I had to mix smaller batches and spray the bricks with water every 15 minutes just to keep things workable. Has anyone else had a day where the weather just fought you every step of the way?

Oh man I saw a video about adding ice to the mixing water for hot weather masonry work.
