The wall I built last month looked awful after 3 days of rain

I did this retaining wall for a guy in Springfield. Used regular old mortar mix. Figured it was fine. Day 3 of steady rain and the joints were crumbling out. Looked like it was 10 years old not 10 days. Switched to a Type N mortar with lime on the next job. Night and day difference. What do you guys use for wet climate walls?

Yeah the lime really makes a difference, I had the exact same mess happen to me.

Depends on your climate. Here in the desert, lime just makes things worse.

Switched to type N with lime after that happened to me too. Made a huge difference in how the mortar held up through the wet months.
