Can we talk about how people treat dry beans like they're a huge hassle?
My roommate kept buying canned beans, saying the dry ones took too long. I timed it last week: 10 minutes to sort and rinse, then I just left them in a pot of water overnight. The next day, they cooked while I watched a show. For $1.50 a bag, we get triple the meals. Does anyone else have a simple prep trick that saves a ton?

Only if you want them to taste like wet cardboard.

Wet cardboard? That's a new one. Mine always taste way better than canned, more like actual beans. I throw in a bay leaf and some garlic powder while they simmer, makes the whole kitchen smell good. The texture is better too, they don't turn to mush. It's just a different result.
