Found my grandma's grocery list from 1975 in an old cookbook
She paid 29 cents for a pound of ground beef, and I saw that in a newspaper clipping she used as a bookmark. It made me realize how much the cost of a basic meal has gone up, even adjusting for inflation. What's the cheapest meal you can still make today that feels like a real dinner?

29 cents for beef is wild. My cheap dinner is just pasta with butter, feels like a real meal until you look at your bank account.

Add a fried egg on top, it makes the pasta feel way more filling.

Saw a thing online about people making "depression era" meals to save money now. A pot of beans with some onion and bacon ends is still crazy cheap and feels like real food. That old price for beef is just depressing to think about. Makes you wonder what basic stuff will cost in another fifty years.
