Heard a cashier say canned tomatoes are better than fresh in winter, changed how I meal plan
Was at Aldi last week buying some fresh tomatoes for pasta sauce. Cashier says to me, you know those are mealy this time of year right? She said she only uses canned in the winter. Been doing that since and my sauces taste way better. Anyone else switch to canned during cold months?

That's about the time I realized my "homemade" sauce was basically just warm ketchup. Funny how we spend all that money on "fresh" produce when the can has been doing the heavy lifting the whole time.

Oh come on, fresh tomatoes can still bring a brightness you just don't get from a can. Isn't part of cooking about working with what's in season instead of taking shortcuts?
