I ditched meal kits for bulk bins and my grocery bill dropped to $140
Everyone in this sub seems to love those $5 meal kit boxes with the coupons, but I tried one and hated the packaging waste plus the portions were tiny. Switched to buying rice, beans, and oats from the bulk bins at WinCo in Portland, and I feed myself for 3 weeks on $140. The extra 20 minutes weighing stuff and bagging it is worth saving almost half of what I spent before. Has anyone else dumped the pre-portioned stuff for loose grains and actually tracked the savings?

WinCo bulk bins are the real MVP honestly. I hit the one in Beaverton and my last trip came to $86 for three weeks of oats, lentils, and pasta. The packaging waste thing got me too, those meal kit boxes pile up fast. Portions felt like a joke, I was hungry an hour later. Bagging my own stuff takes maybe 15 extra minutes and I know exactly what I'm getting.
