I finally made a whole week of dinners for $32 and it went sideways on Wednesday
Last Tuesday I got paid and had $40 left after bills, so I planned out 7 dinners using a $2 bag of rice, a $6 pork shoulder, and whatever canned stuff I had in the pantry. Monday and Tuesday were great, that slow cooker pork with rice was actually filling and tasty. Then Wednesday hit, my slow cooker shorted out mid-cook and the pork was still half raw in the middle, so I had to dig out $8 for a cheap rotisserie chicken at Kroger to salvage the night. That blew my budget to $40 total, but it made me wonder, has anyone else had a meal plan crash midweek and how do you keep it under control without just eating peanut butter sandwiches? I'm thinking about buying a backup hot plate, but I'm not sure if that's worth it for a once a month emergency.
