My aunt's one comment about onions changed my whole meal plan
I used to throw out the outer layers of onions because they felt slimy and I thought they were bad. My aunt Carol from Dayton saw me do it and said I was wasting a third of every onion I bought, which adds up when onions are 89 cents a pound. Now I rinse them and dice them fine, and they cook up just as good in my chili and rice dishes. Has anyone else gotten a cooking tip from a relative that actually saved them more than a few bucks a week?
My grandma showed me the same thing with green onions, just rinse the slimy parts and they're totally fine chopped up small. I was tossing so much before and now a bunch lasts me twice as long. Family tips like that hit different because they actually come from years of just doing it, not some blog post.
