My coworker called my lunch 'sad' and I'm still annoyed about it
We were in the break room last Tuesday and I was eating a big bowl of rice and beans I made for maybe $2 total. He looked over and said, 'Man, that looks depressing, you need to treat yourself.' I told him it had cheese, salsa, and avocado on it and tasted great. He just shrugged and went back to his $15 takeout salad. Has anyone else had to deal with people who think cheap food can't be good?

Remember when my friend got the same comment from a coworker, and I agree with grant.sam that budget cooking is a real skill.

Ugh, what a rude thing to say! Rice and beans with all that stuff sounds amazing. I just tell people my budget cooking is a skill and their takeout looks boring.

Got a similar comment once about my lunch... just looked at the guy and said "at least I know how to feed myself for a week on what you spend in one day." Shuts them up real quick. People don't get that making cheap food taste good takes way more thought than just ordering something. My rice and beans have more going on than their sad desk salad anyways.
