My go-to budget meal plan fell apart when my slow cooker died mid-chili

Last Tuesday I came home to my kitchen smelling like burnt beans because the slow cooker just stopped working after 5 hours. I had to dump the whole batch of chili I was making for the week, which was about $8 worth of dried beans, canned tomatoes, and spices. Ended up salvaging the situation by throwing the half-cooked ingredients into a big pot on the stove and simmering it for another 2 hours. Has anyone else had a long-trusted appliance crap out on them right when you needed it?

Your chili pulled a Houdini. Appliances love quitting mid dinner, don't they?

Appliances seem to have a sixth sense for peak stress moments. Like they all meet up somewhere and plan their failures around holidays and dinner parties. Just had a friend whose dishwasher decided to leak all over the floor right as guests were arriving for game night. Had to tell everyone to watch their step while he mopped. It's like they know exactly when you can't afford the headache and pick that moment to quit.

A buddy of mine had his oven quit right before Thanksgiving one year. He was roasting the turkey and about halfway through the cooking time the oven just shut off and wouldn't come back on. He ended up having to finish the bird at his neighbor's house and carry it back across the street in a roasting pan, which was awkward. That turkey turned out fine in the end, but he said the whole situation was a real headache.
