My rice cooker overflowed and ruined my whole dinner plan yesterday

I was making a big batch of rice to stretch out my grocery budget for the week, but I added too much water and it boiled over all over the stove. Took me 20 minutes to clean up the sticky mess, and I had to salvage what was left in the pot for a sad side dish. Anyone else had a rice cooker disaster and found a way to keep it from happening again?

Did you measure the water with the same cup as the rice, or just wing it?

And that little habit is why cooking rice taught me more about consistency than most things in life ever did.

And davis.noah's question is the real kicker here, right? Because I think most of us have been burned by not using the same cup for water and rice. My big question is, did you try the finger trick where you put your index finger on top of the rice and add water to the first knuckle? That's saved me more times than I can count, but maybe I'm just lucky. The real disaster for me was when I forgot to lock the lid once, and it exploded rice paste all over my cabinets. Did you end up tossing the rice or did you manage to cook it down somehow?
