Pro tip: burned my whole pot of rice in a motel in Boise, and the night clerk fixed it with one move
I was cooking a $1.79 bag of rice on a hot plate in a motel in Boise last month and walked away for maybe two minutes to answer my phone. Came back to a black crust on the bottom and smoke everywhere, and I almost tossed the whole pot. The night clerk smelled it from the lobby and told me to put a slice of plain white bread on top and cover it for ten minutes, and it pulled the burnt taste right out of the rest of the rice. I ate it with a can of chili and it was honestly fine. Am I the only one who never heard about the bread trick, and does it work for soup too?
