Pro tip: I chose a $3 bag of dried beans over a $12 pack of chicken thighs for my chili last night and the texture was a total letdown.

Has anyone found a way to make beans feel less mushy without spending on meat?

Try cooking them for way less time than the package says.

Honestly I used to follow the box times exactly. Then I tried cooking my pasta like a minute less than it said, and it was a total game changer. It had this better texture, like it wasn't just mushy at all. I do the same thing with those frozen veggie bags now, just a quick zap. Makes a huge difference.
