Pro tip: I was wasting so much money on fresh herbs until last summer

Honestly, I used to buy those little plastic packs of basil or cilantro for like $3 each, and half would go bad. Tbh, the thing that tipped me off was seeing my neighbor's huge pot of rosemary on her apartment balcony in Chicago. She just snipped what she needed. Ngl, I felt pretty dumb. Anyone have other good herbs to grow in a small space?

Oh man, this hits home. My sister tried to grow mint in a tiny pot on her windowsill and that stuff went totally wild, like it was trying to take over her kitchen. She ended up with so much she was forcing mojitos on everyone who visited for a month. Honestly, some herbs just don't know when to quit.

Disagree with you there, margaret_jackson73. Mint gets a bad rap for being pushy, but that's just how it survives. It's a tough plant that wants to grow, not some garden bully. I actually like that it fills in spaces and gives you tons to use. Makes you feel like a successful gardener even if you mess up other stuff.

Wait, I'm totally with derekward on this one. Mint is the best starter herb, period. That "pushy" thing is exactly why. I killed a sad little basil plant twice before I got a mint cutting. That thing grew like crazy in a coffee can on my fire escape. It made me feel like I could actually do this. Sure, you gotta keep it in its own pot, but that's a small price for never having to buy those wilted supermarket packs again.
