Unpopular opinion: Our street's monthly meal trade cuts my food bill in half

In my neighborhood, we've started a monthly meal trade where everyone cooks one big dish to share. In my experience, this has really cut down on what I spend on food each week. For example, last month I made a huge pot of lentil stew that cost me maybe five dollars total. I got back containers of chili, veggie curry, and even a homemade bread loaf. Your mileage may vary, but for me, it means I have ready-made meals for days without cooking every night. We meet at the park once a month on a Sunday, and it's become a real community thing. I think more people should try something like this if they want to save money. It's not just about the cash, but also about learning new recipes and not feeling alone in budgeting.

Some article made meal swaps sound like a huge chore, but yours seems way simpler.
