Warning: my grocery bill doubled in just 6 months

I live in Austin and I've been shopping at the same HEB for years. Back in January I was spending about $80 a week for me and my kid. Now in July I'm lucky if I can get out under $150. I looked back at my receipts and the worst one was a pack of chicken breasts that went from $5.99 to $8.49 in that time. The eggs I buy went up by a dollar and a half too. I started swapping to beans and rice more just to keep the budget steady. Has anyone else seen prices jump that fast in your area or is it just my store?

My HEB in San Antonio had the exact same jump on chicken breasts. I bought a family pack for $6.99 in March and the same one was $9.49 last week. I started buying whole chickens instead and cutting them up myself because it saves about $3 a pound. The eggs thing is real too. I switched to the store brand eggs because the name brand ones went up almost $2 since spring. The worst part for me has been produce. I used to grab a bag of apples without thinking and now I check the price per pound before I even touch them. The rice and bean swap is smart but it gets old fast. I end up cycling through different beans just to keep it interesting.

My HEB in Austin is doing the same thing, I swear they upped the chicken breast prices almost overnight. Ive been doing the whole chicken thing too and it really does save a ton, plus I use the bones for broth so nothing goes to waste.

lol "makes it interesting" i feel that but honestly i have to ask - have you noticed the whole chicken prices creeping up too? cause at my HEB in Round Rock i saw them jump like a buck fifty in two weeks. feels like theyre just chasing the savings we found. also you mentioned the family pack for $6.99 - do you still find those deals on anything or is it all just a guessing game now? i used to stock up on sale days but lately the sales feel fake, like they mark it down a dime and call it a bargain.
