Why I always buy day-old bread and never regret it

Most folks avoid day-old bread, thinking it's no good. But I grab it from the store markdown rack every time. I started this when I was broke after starting my pressure washing business. It's perfect for toasting or making croutons, and costs way less. Now, I never buy fresh bread at full price.

Oh man, my cooking is so bad that fresh bread would just go to waste anyway. Day-old stuff is perfect for my level of skill in the kitchen. It still makes great toast, right?

Ever make French toast with day-old bagels, since it's surprisingly better than fresh?

Well, day-old bagels are basically armored against bad cooking. Fresh ones turn into soggy messes with too much egg, but stale bagels can handle a flood. David's right, if you burn everything, at least the bagels won't disintegrate. It's like the food version of a safety net. So why bother with fresh when stale does the job for us kitchen amateurs?
