Budget meal prep at Ralphs went sideways when my card declined
I was at the Ralphs on Newhall Ranch Road last Tuesday, loading up on their store brand beans and rice to keep the week under $40. My debit card got declined right at the register and I had to call my bank while holding up the line - turns out they flagged it as fraud for some reason. The cashier let me run the transaction again and it went through, but I lost my coupon for the 18-count eggs. Anyone else have their bank mess up a routine grocery run like that?

Honestly is it really that serious though? Lol. Like yeah it sucks your card got declined but you called the bank and it worked again 30 seconds later. You lost a coupon for eggs man that's like a dollar maybe two. People act like the world ended because they had to wait an extra minute at the register. Next time just tap your card and if it fails once just try it again or use a different one. Not everything needs a whole story about fraud alerts and ruined coupons.

For real, this exact thing went down with me at a Stater Bros last week. I was just trying to grab some cheap chicken thighs and rice and my card got declined three times before I gave up and used cash. The cashier was cool about it but I definitely felt like everyone in line behind me was staring daggers. And I feel you on the egg coupon, @the_lucas might think it's no big deal but losing a dollar here and there adds up fast when you're trying to stretch a budget. Maybe it's just me but I swear banks always flag the most boring purchases like groceries or gas, never when I actually do something wild.

Oh man, that exact same thing happened to me at a Vons last month. I started telling my bank ahead of time when I'm hitting up a grocery store, it's annoying but it saves the hassle. Maybe try that next time so your coupons don't go to waste.
