My electric bill dropped $35 after I switched to a programmable thermostat
I kept my old manual thermostat set to 68 all winter without thinking about it. A neighbor told me to get a basic Honeywell programmable one from Lowe's for $25. Has anyone else seen a big drop in their heating costs after making a simple change?

Friend of mine saved $40 a month after throwing in a cheap programmable one.

Plus if you pair that with a smart schedule it learns your habits. Easy ROI in one season easy.

Yeah, that $35 drop tracks with what I've seen. @dianas50's friend getting $40 back sounds pretty normal too. I put in a basic Honeywell a few years back and my bill went down about $30 that first winter. The trick is really just programming it to drop the temp while you're at work or asleep. I keep mine at 62 overnight and 65 when I'm home, and it made a real difference without me freezing. Your mileage may vary depending on your house and local rates, but that $25 thermostat paid for itself fast in my case.
