My farmer's market haul last Saturday cost $11 for a full week of veggies

Went to the SCV market off Bouquet Canyon and grabbed 5 pounds of bell peppers, 3 zucchini, and a bag of oranges for under twelve bucks. Way cheaper than Vons for produce that actually lasts more than 2 days. Has anyone else switched to mostly market shopping for groceries?

$11 for a week of veggies sounds almost too good to be true. How long does that haul actually last you before things start going soft or getting moldy? And are you freezing or preserving any of it, or do you just eat it all fresh before the week's up?

Hang on, is nobody gonna mention that the SCV market is kinda famous for their weird surplus deals? @the_sam I've gotten bell peppers there that looked rough but were perfectly fine after roasting them. That $11 haul might mean grabbing stuff that's a day or two past its prime, which is great if you're planning to cook or freeze it right away, not so much if you want picture-perfect salad all week.

Yeah but @the_sam makes a good point though. How many of those veggies actually make it to day 5 or 6 before they start looking sad? I feel like that $11 savings gets eaten up by throwing half of it out.
