My neighbor in Newhall swore I could cut my grocery bill in half shopping at the 99 Cent Store, and he was mostly right but not about the produce
He told me back in March that if I stopped hitting Vons for everything and did my dry goods and cleaning stuff at the 99, I would save around $200 a month for a family of four. I tried it for 6 weeks and the dry goods part was right, I'm saving about $140 a month, but the produce there went bad in 2 days every single time so I ended up throwing money away. So is it worth splitting your shopping between two stores, or do you just eat the higher prices at one place and save yourself the second trip?
