My washing machine died on laundry day, but I fixed it for $12

Last Saturday I loaded up my washer with a full load of towels and it just hummed at me. Wouldn't spin or drain. I was about to call a repair guy until I looked up the error code online. Turned out the lid switch was busted from years of slamming it shut. Found a replacement switch on Amazon for $12 and had it working again in 20 minutes. Now I feel dumb for almost spending $150 on a service call. Has anyone else fixed a major appliance with a cheap part like this?

Fixed my dryer with a paperclip once, so you're already ahead of me.

Used a bobby pin to fix my washing machine once, worked like a charm.

Oh man, just make sure you unplug it first!
