Swapped my grocery shopping day to Monday evenings and it saved me like $30 a trip
I used to do my big grocery run every Saturday morning like clockwork. That was just what I thought you did. But a few months ago I got stuck working late on a Monday and had to go after 7 pm. The store was basically empty, no lines at self checkout, and I noticed all the markdown stickers on meat and bakery stuff. Now I always go Monday night around 7 or 8 and I grab whatever is discounted first, then build my meals around that. Last week I got a whole pack of chicken thighs for $4.50 because it was marked down from $11. Has anyone else tried shifting their shopping day like that or do you stick to weekends?

Oh man, my coworker tried doing this after I told her about it. She has a big family and was spending like 200 bucks every weekend. She went on a Tuesday night once and grabbed three packs of ground beef that were all marked down half off. She froze most of it and planned meals around it for two weeks straight. She said it felt weird at first but now she won't go back to weekend shopping.

That ground beef trick is one of those things that sounds kind of gross at first but once you do it you realize it's totally fine. A buddy of mine does the same thing with chicken thighs from the discount rack, he'll grab like five or six packs when they're marked down and just season and freeze them individually. He says it saves him about forty percent on his protein costs every month. Plus he started doing it with things like bell peppers and mushrooms that are about to go bad, just chops them up and freezes them for stir fry or omelets. Once you get into that mindset of shopping the clearance meat section it's hard to go back to paying full price on a Saturday morning.

Frozen clearance chicken thighs in pre seasoned packs got me through some tight months too.
