That time I fell for a 'free energy audit' scam at my own front door

Last Tuesday a guy in a neon vest knocked on my door saying he was doing free energy audits for our neighborhood in Valencia. I let him in because he seemed official with a clipboard and a badge. He spent 20 minutes walking around my house pointing out 'drafts' I never noticed before and then tried to sell me a $4,000 attic insulation package on the spot. When I said no thanks he got pushy and started saying my electric bill would double next winter without it. I checked with my landlord later and he said the city doesn't even offer those audits through door to door people. Has anyone else had these guys come around and how do you get rid of them nicely?

That line about your electric bill doubling sounds like pure pressure tactic. Did he actually show you any proof or real numbers from your place, or was it just vague warnings?

Was he reading off some generic script or actually showing you your usage history? Sounds sketchy to me.
