TIL my local library has a tool loan program that saved me $200

I was at the downtown branch trying to fix a broken cabinet hinge and the librarian overheard me. She told me they lend out things like drills and saws for free, you just need a card. I borrowed a cordless drill for a week and finished the job without buying one. Has anyone else found a free service like this that cut a big cost?

My buddy got a free carpet cleaner from his town's community shed last month.

People clean all sorts of normal messes with those machines. A good run with hot water and the right cleaning solution would take care of most anything left behind. It's not like it's a used toothbrush.

Worry about what the last person cleaned with it... like pet stains or something gross. That free stuff can come with a hidden ick factor. Makes you wonder if it's worth the savings.
