Used to drop $40 a week on coffee runs downtown, now I brew at home with a $15 French press
I was spending like $8 a pop at that place near my office in San Jose for 3 years straight. Then I finally bought a simple press and some beans from WinCo for $6 last month. How do you guys keep your morning coffee cost under control without losing the ritual feel?

Buddy of mine used to buy a latte every single morning before work, then his wife bought him a Mr. Coffee drip machine from a garage sale for five bucks and he never looked back. Swears the ritual is actually better now because he can sit on his porch with his dog instead of waiting in line.

But did his wife give him a hard time about having to clean the carafe every evening? Because that's where I always got stuck with drip machines. @michaelchen I've heard enough people say that home brewed coffee is better for the smell alone, that whole morning aroma filling up the kitchen. I wonder if he ever tried a French press though, that's a whole other kind of ritual with the steeping and the plunging.
