Warning: I spent $80 on a 'budget' meal kit service that was anything but
I signed up for one of those meal kit services that promised cheap, easy dinners. They said it would save me money and time. After the first box arrived, I realized the portions were tiny. I had to add extra rice or pasta to make it enough for two people. That meant buying more groceries on top of the kit cost. The final meal ended up costing about $15 per person, which is more than just ordering takeout. I stuck with it for a month because I felt locked in. Has anyone found a meal kit that's actually a good deal, or are they all a trap?

Ugh, that's the hidden cost nobody talks about! I mean, if you have to buy extra stuff anyway, you're just paying for fancy recipe cards.

Reminds me of my sister buying a fancy bread maker (the kind with all the preset cycles). She ended up needing special flour, a digital scale, and this weird proofing basket. The machine itself just sat there, basically an expensive paperweight after the first month. All that for maybe two decent loaves.

You're basically paying for a fancy shopping list! It's like @evan_campbell's bread maker story, where you need a million extra things just to make the one thing you bought work. You get a tiny bag of sauce and a single chicken breast, then have to run to the store for the actual food part. The math never adds up, and you're left with a fridge full of overpriced garnish.
