Warning: My cheap coffee maker was costing me more than I thought

I've been using this $15 drip machine from a yard sale for like 8 months, thinking I was saving a ton. Then my buddy came over and pointed out it takes almost 9 minutes to brew a pot, and my electric bill spiked $12 last month. I timed it and realized I was running the thing for over an hour total each week just waiting. I switched to a simple French press I found for $8 and now my morning coffee is ready in 4 minutes flat. Anyone else have a 'budget' item that actually wastes money on the back end?

Totally get that. I had a similar thing with those cheap space heaters (the little boxy ones). They'd run forever trying to warm up a room and just kill my power bill. Switched to a better one that cost more up front, but it heats the room in minutes and shuts off. The cheap stuff just runs and runs, burning money the whole time.

My old apartment had those cheap heaters. They ran nonstop and my bill jumped fifty bucks. Paying more up front saves you money later.

@paige427 nailed it, cheap stuff runs forever just to keep you broke and cold.
